The missing page

Earlier this evening Calico Jack and I were playing our usual game of Liar's Dice in a dark corner of the Tavern, when in strolled none other than Mr Jackson, the legendary First Mate of the Endeavour.

Unfortunately, the years had not been kind to Mr Jackson with him first fleecing his talisman on the Black Market, and then soon after squandering the profits on gambling, woman and excessive amounts of rum all along the Rayon Passage. The rumour now was that he was nothing more than a penniless old pirate and worse still a pirate who liked to play a bit of Liar's Dice from time to time, and very badly.

With not much to his name, there were very few pirates who would entertain Mr Jackson's request for a game.

This evening was to be different however.

An urgent Mr Jackson approached and in very hushed tones, all the while glancing over his shoulder repeatedly to see who was within earshot, proceeded to demand to be included in our game with an offer that he said could not be refused. He was looking to wager something that he had been holding onto for some time – an original page taken from the diary of Captain James Sparrow.

While the years had been hard on Mr Jackson, he was no liar.

This was definitely something that intrigued us both and so we proceeded to count out a bag of Pieces of Eight to be wagered for this scrap from the legendary diary.

After of course first indulging Mr Jackson with a great deal of rum as he regaled us with stories of the Endeavour and the Archive, we then proceeded with the best of 3 games of Liar’s Dice.

It was not long before the page was in our possession and we share it now with the treasure hunters because to us it seems to contain nothing more than a single encoded phrase....
