These ships were often known for their speed, strength, and intimidating appearance, and their names have become synonymous with the era of piracy.
One of the most famous pirate ships of the Golden Age was the "Queen Anne's Revenge," commanded by the infamous Blackbeard. This ship, originally a French slave ship, was captured by Blackbeard and his crew in 1717, and was outfitted with 40 guns and a crew of over 300 men. The Queen Anne's Revenge was known for its speed and firepower, and it struck fear into the hearts of sailors everywhere.
Another legendary pirate ship of the Golden Age was the "Whydah," commanded by the pirate "Black Sam" Bellamy. The Whydah was originally a slave ship, but it was captured by Bellamy and his crew in 1717. It was equipped with 26 guns and a crew of over 150 men. The Whydah was known for its speed and manoeuvrability, and it was involved in many successful pirate raids.
The "Royal Fortune" commanded by pirate Bartholomew Roberts, also known as Black Bart. He captured more than 400 ships in his career and was one of the most successful pirates of all time. He had several ships during his career but the Royal Fortune was his flagship, it was a massive ship with 40-guns and a crew of over 200 men, capable of taking on any warship of the time.
These are just a few examples of the legendary pirate ships of the Golden Age, there are many more, each with its own unique history and stories. These ships were not only symbols of piracy and adventure but also represented wealth, power and freedom for the pirate crews.
